Link O' The Day
It has been brought to my attention that I have way, way, too many bookmarks. Many, many, links, my friends.
This has to be useful to someone besides me. So I'm going to attempt a Link O' The Day feature. Which frankly, is more like a Link O' The Week, but I persist on calling it Link O' The Day, 'cause I like how that sounds. I figure in three years or more I should have finished sharing my current list of links.
So here it is, your first Link O' The Day, in keeping with the homeschool theme. But wait! Not interested in homeschool and all of it's glorious facets? I am so much more than a one dimensional creature, don't you know. Stop by tomorrow for something completely different!
Link O' The Day: Tonight's Sky
I love this link because astronomy is something I always wanted to learn more about, but never have really delved into it. It's one of those things in my "pending" list. So this site is a nice daily dose. Besides, I really like the way "waxing gibbous moon" glides off the tongue.

Your link today ladies and gentlemen: Sock Dreams (go with me on this one...)
This is just a funky, interesting and way cool store.
I originally landed here looking for....(cringe) legwarmers. I hate to say it, but, I kinda miss the 80's.

Because I feel it is never too early to start planning. And any gardening obsessive in her/his right mind already has.
I dabbled in the art of Square Foot Gardening last year a wee bit. And you know what? I liked it. It worked. Well, it wanted to work. It had every intention of working.
I hate to get catty, but someone felt it was HER personal dumping ground. Maybe she overheard me going on about the whole organic thing and thought she'd show off a little of her own organics, but I did NOT appreciate the fact that I couldn't eat 1/2 the produce due to toxic issues.....but I've forgiven and moved on. I am certainly not one to bear grudges. Really. No harm done.
But let's just say catnip is NOT going to be in the herb garden this year.

Because, knowing me and knowing you, they are part of your sub conscious.
Todays link, gentle readers, is for every single one of us who stood in front of the mirror with hair brush as microphone singing Dancing Queen. Because even after they weren't cool, but before Broadway and Madonna, deep down we knew they really were. Cool, that is.

And just a little bonus on Link O' The Day....because for some reason this makes David and I crack up every time.

As you may have gathered, I love books. I love literature. I love
poetry. I love writing. If it's on the page, physically or digitally, I
love it.
Which is why I love this link: Today In Literature.
One has to sign up to get the full benefits, but there is nothing stopping you from going to their lovely site every single day and checking out what happened in Lit. History. Like today. "Eighteenth Century smash hit!!! The Beggars Opera!!! England's top cognoscenti give it two thumbs up!!"
If they had a widget (free) you know it'd be on this blog.

Okay, all you homeschoolers. Ah, heck, you don't have to be a
homeschooler to love this. I actually got this link from one of the
homeschool forums I wander too every now and then. (In between
blogging, "homeschooling", bon-bons and Harlequins we stay at home
mom's love to read...) It's a very cool animated version of the Bayeux Tapestry. Is little Johnny behind on his Latin Studies? no problem, in this animated version, Bayeux is translated for you!
Enjoy!

Simple, beautiful paintings. One a day. Still life. Mostly food.
Sign up for his email and get a pretty painting a day. Better yet, buy one!
Enjoy.

This link is brought to you by my SIL, Anna...or was it my brother
Josh? I can't remember now 'cause they write under the same profile
when they comment. At any rate, it's from one of two of the very nicest
relatives one could hope to have. (Send cheese curds now.) And I would
never try to(come visit Maine) say anything that is (send money)
subliminal to them.
Anyway, she/he mentioned Samantha Lamb on flckr. Some really awesome photos. Which led me to her blog. Which led me to her website.
She's got a great eye and I especially liked her series of a country girl.

I'm trying to get back on track with this whole Link O' The Day
thing, which, as we all know is really Link O' The Every Other Day or
So...
At any rate, I just got an email notice of a really sweet deal by the History Scribe people. They make these really great books and/or dowloads that Ms. D loves doing reports with. They have a really good deal going in Feb. Half off on downloads! Sweet!! I highly recommend History Scribe, the Reading Log and the Time Line. (The only one I found that didn't drive me batty or take up the entire house...)
I've just been playing around on their site and found some really neat stuff for high school. History and Philosophy Essay QUestions. And for those of you into copy work you may want to check the link provided. And the piece d resistance is the Earth Science kits. SSSHHHhhhh don't tell Ms. D.
And interestingly enough, the same people who bring you all this also brings you:
That's right, Dad. You may want to check this out.....

If you are a homeschooling parent, I
think you'll really love this link. In her blog, Irene, has hit a
slump. Of course that is terribly negative. A Mid-Course Correction is
what she calls it and rightly so. Throughout life we change course, try
new tactics, invent, discard, and reevaluate. It happens all the time
in the corporate world, too. So why not in the homeschool world?
I just loved this post. I think I particularly loved that I could, so, totally relate. The reasons she lists as to what motivated her to make changes are some of the very reasons that prompted me to eclectically school.
And now, without further ado....HEEEEEEERRRRRRES IRENE!

I'm a huge ebay fan. Mostly I buy. Sometimes I sell. (I'm at 312 and 100%, thank you very much!!) Although, to be honest, I haven't bid for awhile. But when I really, really want something totally obscure,(see a dinnerware set from the 60's) nostalgic (see my mom's Sarah Coventry necklace that has disappeared years ago...) hard to find (Princess House saucepans that I LOVE)I go to eBay. Then there was the year my dear friend Carla and I bought all our anniversary gifts for each other exclusively from eBay. What fun that was! I used to shop for Ms. D's clothes exclusively from eBay, but now that she's getting just a bit more into the shopping thing, that will change.
I wasn't too surprised to hear of the proposed Ebay strike. The nickel and diming, frankly, doesn't make it all that worth it to me to sell. While I'll always check ebay first, I was pleased to find a few other auction sites and thought I'd pass them on.
I have no experience with any of these, so caveat emptor!
Meanwhile, all this eBay looking has me on the grandest nostalgia trip of all: Avon. I remember when Mom got the HUGE Avon books. The were standard magazine size. I was around 7 or 8 and loved to look through them. It was the harbinger of Vogue for me. Better yet, my very best friend in the world, had a mom who bought her Avon lip gloss in those cool plastic containers made to look like fake gum. Or mini soda bottles. Or Chocolate Chip Cookies. I could almost swear my best friend had this. Do you think it would smell like my childhood if I got it?
Somehow I think some things are better left on the shelf.
I leave you with this last thought friends...Is eBay going to be a distant memory in 10 years? Will our grandchildren wonder what this song was all about?

I haven't done this in awhile, much less daily, ..but I thought I would share this with you.
Each month sometimes I look up the month and link to the daily or monthly observances....like peanut butter day, or the fact April is Poetry Month. Or perhaps May is get off the computer and enjoy spring month. The observances have often turned into units for study, or, if nothing else, a springboard for further discussion. (Discussions like "Mom, could you get off the computer and feed me?")
Holidays and Observances
...and speaking of April being poetry month I am blatantly stealing this link that Denise, Mom in Madison, posted today. It's a great discovery!

For those of you that need one more reason to homeschool, or to foment education reform...here is a GREAT blog!!
I'll be putting this in my sidebar somewhere eventually..it's too good not to have front and center.

Even though I have blatantly stole this link, it still counts. My mother always loved Harry Chapin. This is Tom Chapin, so that's kind of close. And he's singing about the travesty that is SOME U.S. Schools....so it's a good combination.
Oh, and I blatantly stole it from detentionslip.org.

I know that you have often been struck down by the sheer force that
is my excellent photography. Many of you have verily BEGGED me to
please post tips and tricks, but being so busy, I have lacked the time
to better educate the budding photographic masses. Here, however, is a
link I discovered that helped me a great deal may help you.
